Choosing A Good Tennis Coach For Your Child

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I often talk with tennis parents about their children and how they want to find the best coach for them.

But so many times the parents have no clue what makes a good tennis coach.Tennis coach

Most of the times they rely either on:

  • word of mouth
  • past successes of the coach (his name)
  • how she looks and behaves (nicely dressed, working hard on court)
  • where the coach works (if she works in a tennis academy or this prestigious club THEN she must be good)

All these factors are too superficial and can be very deceiving in your judgment and choice of a good tennis coach.

Here are 5 factors you need to check with your potential tennis coach to determine whether he is the right choice for your child: (more…)

How To Stop Losing Against The Same Opponent

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I have been playing tennis for a long time.

My problem is this: in the practice I have very good shots & also play matches well, but there are some people that I always lose against.

I feel nervous and out of control. What can I do to prevent or overcome this?

Let’s first try to understand why this nervousness happens and why you lose matches to the same people and what are possible solutions. (more…)

Dealing With Rough Patches In Tennis And Life

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I’m an avid competition level tennis player, but I’m going through a rough patch in tennis at the moment.

I’m 29 going on for 30 and there are times when I really love this game, but other times which make me hate it, or rather hate myself when I’m on the court.

Any thoughts on this? (more…)

How To Win Against Pushers

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Hi Tomaz, I am a 4.0 baseliner, and occasionally move into the net.

My volley skill is not that bad but I feel more comfortable in the baseline.

I hit with a semi-western forehand, with a slice back hand. My opponent is an old man, with a continental forehand.

He had no pace on the ball, and I make a lot of errors trying to hit his ball.

My power forehand seems to be very effective sometimes, but most of the time, he had a soft touch and lure me into the net or move me from side to side with short ball.

He used a lot of old-man game, drop and lob and I feel my baseline game is slipping, and eventually I found myself volley with him at the net and he always had the advantage of that.

Unlike other old man, he had a lot of stamina and move very well.

How can I stick to my baseline game when he can always bring me to the net with one stroke?

The Technical vs Playing Dilemma

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Q: Since three weeks I am training (again, after an interruption of some months) with a good tournament player.

He is telling me exactly the same as you did before!

I tried today to focus only on the ball and the game. The improvement is stunning!

A: Yes, I tried to make this clear in the “How to Play Tennis” bonus videos.

4 Ways To Ease The Stress Of Competition For Tennis Juniors

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

tennis juniorHi, the reason I bought the E-book is that I am a tennis parent of a 9 years old son.

He is playing tennis since 2003 (then 5 years of age).

He is playing very well (and so a lot of other kids) but when he has to play a tournament he is awfully stressed.

Even for the matches in the first round.

Last week he made it for the first time to the final! But oh, what a stress, Tomaz.

He was crying for two hole sets (and lost of course and a lot of headache)!

What can I do (or say) to make him feel better or to take a little bit of stress away? (more…)

Can You Guarantee A Win?

Friday, July 20th, 2007

In order to keep my current rating I need to beat three people with same or higher rating.

So far in the season I have only managed to beat lower rated players and I have lost twice in three set marathons to people with the same rating as me.

The season is not over until September and I am determined to keep my rating.

Any psychological advice on how I would go about achieving this? (more…)

How Expectations Affect Your Determination To Win

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Hi, over the last few years I have been improving my game both physically and mentally, but recently its been downhill.

I used to get on the court and mentally fight out regardless of the outcome.

Now I seem to give up after the first hurdle and get niggling injuries here and there which prevent be from giving it my all physically on a tennis court.

I can’t seem to find an explanation for this mental lapse. (more…)

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Hi, well this is my problem: I have a good and strong drive but sometimes when I am receiving the serve my return, unexplainably, becomes too weak and goes to the net.

Why? Concentration matter? (more…)
