Friday, May 30th, 2008

Katarina Srebotnik from Slovenia has won the biggest match of her life winning 6-4, 6-4 against Serena Williams in the third round of the French Open.

Katarina was pretty much in form since she recently reached the finals of Strasbourg where she lost to Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-4, 6-7, 0-6.

Serena Williams on the other hand had to withdraw in the quarter-finals of Rome because of the back problem.

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Katarina Srebotnik reached yet another Grand Slam final in Wimbledon 2007 ladies doubles tournament with her partner Ai Sugiyama.

This was the third Grand Slam final this year for Katarina. Unfortunately she lost all three of them but hopefully she will learn her lessons and win some next year.

Katarina and Ai had a great run at this year’s Wimbledon winning against top seeds Stosur / Raymond in the semi-finals.

They lost to Liezel Huber and Cara Black in the final 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

This final pushed Katarina’s WTA ladies doubles rankings to #5!

By the way, if you are wondering why I write about Katarina; it’s because she is from Slovenia which is my home country too. ;)

Congratulations Katarina!

Katarina Srebotnik reaches another French Open final

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Katarina Srebotnik achieved another great success in the French Open mixed doubles this year when she reached the finals.

Katarina SrebotnikHer doubles partner Nenad Zimonjic is another Serbian with a fantastic run at Roland Garros joining Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic and Novak Djokovic’s great runs to the semifinals.

Katarina and Nenad won the mixed French Open title in 2006 and were favorites in this years’s match against Natalie Dechy from France and Andy Ram from Israel.

But it seemed that the crowd support for Natalie gave her that extra boost to turn the game in their favor.

Natalie went for risky shots towards the end of the match and it paid off.

In case you didn’t know, Katarina Srebotnik comes from Slovenia which is my home country too so I am very happy to add this little post to share her success.

Katarina is currently ranked 20th in singles and 9th in doubles.

Cestitke Katarina!

(which means “congratulations”…)
