How To Mentally Approach Playing A Weaker Opponent

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Hi Tomaz,

I got the manual about a month ago, and it is absolutely fantastic. I have a question for you.

Mentally, at stages it’s normal to have negative thoughts towards playing somebody who is way way way weaker than you.

I know I would beat the person most easily, but do have some negative thoughts about the match going all wrong if I had to play him, that I would get nervous/lose/be mentally broken, …

I would like some advice.

Ever Lost To A Name?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

You know the “names” in your tennis circle, don’t you? ;)

There are names like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick on the ATP tour and names like Serena Williams, Justine Henin and Maria Sharapova on the WTA tour.

There are of course “names” in your local tennis club and maybe you are even one of them.

I used to lose some matches to “names”, then eventually won some, then realized that this “name” thing is just a trick of my mind and I don’t play well if I listen to it.

Power of the Subconscious Mind and Tennis

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

How does the power of the subconscious mind show in tennis?

The subconscious mind stores emotions, memories and reactions to them.

power of the subconscious mind

What typically happens in tennis is that you are confronted with a situation that triggers fear.

The first and immediate reaction to this fear will come from the subconscious part of the mind and already suggest (you will start thinking) your next actions or emotions.

When these are beneficial to you, then there is nothing to worry about.

But many times the subconscious mind stores harmful reactions and it’s usually very difficult to change these reactions. (more…)

How To Stop Losing Against The Same Opponent

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

I have been playing tennis for a long time.

My problem is this: in the practice I have very good shots & also play matches well, but there are some people that I always lose against.

I feel nervous and out of control. What can I do to prevent or overcome this?

Let’s first try to understand why this nervousness happens and why you lose matches to the same people and what are possible solutions. (more…)

Dealing With Rough Patches In Tennis And Life

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I’m an avid competition level tennis player, but I’m going through a rough patch in tennis at the moment.

I’m 29 going on for 30 and there are times when I really love this game, but other times which make me hate it, or rather hate myself when I’m on the court.

Any thoughts on this? (more…)

4 Ways To Ease The Stress Of Competition For Tennis Juniors

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

tennis juniorHi, the reason I bought the E-book is that I am a tennis parent of a 9 years old son.

He is playing tennis since 2003 (then 5 years of age).

He is playing very well (and so a lot of other kids) but when he has to play a tournament he is awfully stressed.

Even for the matches in the first round.

Last week he made it for the first time to the final! But oh, what a stress, Tomaz.

He was crying for two hole sets (and lost of course and a lot of headache)!

What can I do (or say) to make him feel better or to take a little bit of stress away? (more…)

Can You Guarantee A Win?

Friday, July 20th, 2007

In order to keep my current rating I need to beat three people with same or higher rating.

So far in the season I have only managed to beat lower rated players and I have lost twice in three set marathons to people with the same rating as me.

The season is not over until September and I am determined to keep my rating.

Any psychological advice on how I would go about achieving this? (more…)

How Expectations Affect Your Determination To Win

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Hi, over the last few years I have been improving my game both physically and mentally, but recently its been downhill.

I used to get on the court and mentally fight out regardless of the outcome.

Now I seem to give up after the first hurdle and get niggling injuries here and there which prevent be from giving it my all physically on a tennis court.

I can’t seem to find an explanation for this mental lapse. (more…)

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Hi, well this is my problem: I have a good and strong drive but sometimes when I am receiving the serve my return, unexplainably, becomes too weak and goes to the net.

Why? Concentration matter? (more…)
